SILICON VALLEY

RECOVERY ROUNDTABLE

FAQ

Mayor Sam Liccardo in partnership with Silicon Valley leaders representing leaders representing business, education, healthcare, innovation, retail, real estate, construction, financial institutions, and more, have recently announced the formation of the Silicon Valley Recovery Roundtable (SVRR).  This flagship group will be tasked with making policy recommendations to local and regional governing bodies that ensure political leaders harness state and federal resources, get families back to work, and prepare for the economy’s “new normal”.

“As the curve begins to flatten and we shift our focus from the immediate task of saving lives, we now turn our attention to the critical responsibility of saving livelihoods,” said Mayor Sam Liccardo. “We are immensely grateful to the members of this council as we harness their incredible brainpower and business prowess to explore ways to restart our regional economy.”

The following is a list of Frequently Asked Questions:

Who is on the Roundtable?

The Roundtable is composed of 60+ leaders in business, education, healthcare, innovation, retail, real estate, construction, financial institutions, and more. The SVRR is co-chaired by five high-profile leaders representing business, labor, and philanthropy, including:

  1. Bobby Alvarado, Executive Officer, NorCal Carpenters Regional Council
  2. Carl Guardino, CEO of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group
  3. Chuck Robbins, Chairman and CEO, Cisco
  4. Lisa Su, President and CEO, AMD
  5. Nicole Taylor, President and CEO, Silicon Valley Community Foundation

How is the Roundtable process going to work?

The Roundtable will meet over the course of 100 days. During this time, the Roundtable will focus on answering 4 core questions.

  1. How do we reduce risks and reopen safely and productively?
  2. How do we make the recovery inclusive for our community’s most vulnerable members?
  3. How do we enable businesses to survive and thrive?
  4. How do we innovate to build the foundation of the new normal?

The SVRR will formulate policy recommendations related to business operations and job creation, required for a hard reset of our regional economy.

What will be the result of the Roundtable?

  • Synthesized recommendations, prioritized short term initiatives and long term strategic moves for each focus area — all with an emphasis on getting families back to work, and positioning our region for a quick recovery that leverages Silicon Valley’s tremendous resources.
  • Some recommendations may be finalized and released before the end of the 100 days, especially related to the safe reopening of the economy and shared best practices and protocols.

Can I nominate someone to be on the Roundtable?

While we wish we could include everyone in the group, we want to ensure the size is manageable and enables the group to have maximum impact.

We also recognize that there is significant work to be done over the coming days and months, and there will be strategic places in the process where the public can add their perspectives. What is the survey?

The survey has a list of  questions which relate to the four workstreams (Reopening, Inclusive Recovery, Enabling Businesses to Survive and Thrive, and Reimagining the Future) that the SVRR will be working on. The questions on the survey mirror those that were asked of the 60+ roundtable participants.

How does it help?

Hearing from individual businesses who have been impacted by the pandemic will help to identify the areas of greatest concern, and also where resources and strategies are needed for long-term success.

How will it be used?

Survey data will be aggregated and shared with the appropriate subcommittee(s) from the Roundtable.  If survey respondents wish, they can “opt-in” to be individually identified, in which case their responses could be utilized for follow up.
